CDEs for preclinical TBI outcome measures

NINDS and the DoD have sponsored the development of Common Data Elements (CDEs) for preclinical TBI outcome measures. Three working groups of preclinical TBI experts volunteered their time and effort to make this effort a success. As with the Clinical TBI CDEs there will be a limited time for the public (you) to comment on the preclinical CDEs. The instructions for downloading and commenting are linked.

The instructions for downloading and commenting are listed below.

It is important to note that the purpose of the preclinical CDE development is NOT to standardize the methodology of these outcome measures but rather to provide a standardized reporting lexicon/dictionary that will simplify comparison of data across studies, labs, and injury models. If successful these CDEs should simplify data sharing and enhance rigor, transparency and reproducibility. Among the challenges the working groups faced was to develop a set of CDEs that have utility for the stated purpose but not too much minutia that may overburden data collection without added value.

Please take the time to look at the CDEs and provide us with feedback via the email address below

The public review package zip file (PreclinicalCDE_v0.1_061217.zip) contains:

  1. Instructions
    1. Instructions on reviewing the CDE’s and submitting comments
  2. CDE spreadsheet guide
    1. Description for the CDE spreadsheet columns; please review columns A, B, C, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, L, M, O, P, Q, R
  3. Quick Start Guide
    1. Provides a reference for each of the tests/outcomes for the preclinical TBI common data elements (CDEs).
  4. Common Data Elements (CDE) sets for each test/instrument
    1. CDE sets are available as excel spreadsheets which include the CDEs identified and defined by the Preclinical TBI Working Groups. The CDE sets can be used as the building blocks for study data collection forms.
  5. Comments form spreadsheet
    1. Reviewers should use this spreadsheet to return comments to the working group (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.)
